Shine! - St Mary's Music Group

Shine! was the Music group for St Marys church until recently. Shine! had a good year in 2015, in what proved to be our last year together. As usual we had a lot of fun rehearsing, and we always enjoyed supporting the All Age Worship Services, as well as the others we were asked to play for.

 

The year started with not only an AAW service, but also playing at the Methodist church for the Unity Service. It was great that Steve Sowerby joined us for this. The year continued with us playing at the AAW Services every 4th Sunday, and with three Praise and Worship Evening Services. Then in August it was decided that we should take
a short break, as we had been playing at least once a month for over 20 years and needed a rest!

We restarted in November with an AAW service, followed by our usual heavy Christmas schedule of Carols at the Dragonfly Centre; Carols at Watton Festive Market; Carols at Lime tree Walk; the Town Carol Service; Carols at Tesco; and finally the Christingle Service on Christmas Eve. All extremely enjoyable but tiring.

We had a meeting on the 5th January where we decided that we would support our last service on 24th January and then retire after 21 years. Although we all were and are very sad to do so, it was time to make way for others in the hope that a new generation will come to take our place. We know that there are very able musicians out there, and we look forward to hearing them in the future.
